Kumamoto, préfecture située sur l'île de Kyushu au Japon, est reconnue pour sa nature exceptionnelle et son héritage culturel distinctif. En 1988, «Kumamoto Artpolis», un projet innovateur s'inscrivant dans un mouvement culturel progressif a été lancé. Des architectes contemporains, en créant et construisant des structures variées, allant des maisons et toilettes publiques aux ponts et musées, ont contribué à revitaliser le paysage architectural de Kumamoto tout en respectant l'environnement. Kumamoto, prefecture located on Kyushu Island in the South part of Japan, is well known for its exceptional nature and its distinctive cultural heritage. In 1988, "Kumamoto Artpolis", an innovative project, which was part of a progressive cultural movement was launched. Contemporary architects, in creating and building various structures from houses and public bathrooms to bridges and museums, contributed to revitalise Kumamoto's architectural landscape while protecting the environment.
